Emirates Cup returns this August to Arsenal

The Emirates Cup was started by the Arsenal Football Club two years ago, as a way to prepare for the start of the English Premier League season as well as a way of bringing some of the top teams in Europe to the capital, London.

Essentially a friendly tournament, it has grown in popularity and stature over the last two tournaments in 2007 and 2008. Now, it is back for a third year, played at the Emirates Stadium in North London, on the 1st and 2nd of August 2009. However, this is the last year that the Emirates Cup will be held yearly; from now on, it will be a biennial affair (every other year), with Arsenal planning to travel to Asia or the Middle East on pre-season tours. This is the last chance to catch this tournament before its gone until summer 2011! This is also a good opportunity to see some of the new Arsenal players in action and what sort of tactics and formation Arsene Wenger will be deploying this EPL season. New boy Thomas Vermaelen will be given some pitch time, and old players Eduardo and Rosicky are looking to rediscover their past blistering form after a season plagued by injuries.

The fixtures are as follows:

Saturday 1st August 2009
2:00pm : Rangers vs Paris Saint-Germain
4:00pm : Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid

Sunday 2nd August 2009
2:00pm : Atletico Madrid
4:15pm : Arsenal vs Rangers

This is an excellent opportunity to catch some of the greatest football teams in the UK and Europe. Granted, its not Manchester United vs Arsenal or Chelsea vs Barcelona or Real Madrid, but given the astronomical prices for normal Premier League or Champions League tickets, the relative bargain of £25 per ticket (cheapest option) for this Emirates Cup is a perfect way to save some money during this Credit Crunch.

As a bonus, the tickets you a seat for both matches, instead of just one, so you are getting twice the value for the price of one ticket. If you have kids or are a senior, concession tickets start from £15.

Ticketmaster is an official vendor of the tickets, and have tickets available for both days.

There seems to be a promotional code available for Ticketmaster to get discounted tickets for the Emirates Cup, in the field labeled “Ticketdeal Partner Adult Offer“. The code TMDEAL usually works, although it doesn’t seem to work for this event. If anyone has the code, I would be extremely grateful if you could post it as a comment below!
