The Q Awards 2009 – Nominees and Gigs

The Q Awards is a relative minnow in the world of music awards, but it is steadily growing in reputation and its nominations and winners are always carefully selected. What sets the Q Awards apart from the others is its focus on rock, indie, and alternative music. This year’s Q Awards will be held at the Grosvenor House in Park Lane on the 26th October 2009.
The Q Music Magazine editor-in-chief, Paul Rees, was quoted as saying:
“The Q Awards prides itself on honouring the best popular music of the year and the 2009 vintage is no exception. Once again the nominations prove that great music continues to be made across a broad range of styles.”
The top prize, awarded for the Best Act in the World Today, is being contested by the Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Coldplay, and Muse.
The award for Best Album also has five bands contesting for it, and the nominated albums are:
- Humbug (Arctic Monkeys)
- No Line on the Horizon (U2)
- Lungs (Florence & the Machine)
- Invaders Must Die (The Prodigy)
- West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (Kasabian)
In the run-up to the award night on the 26th, several of the nominated bands will be playing gigs at the HMV Kentish Forum in London. The following is the schedule of gigs in conjunction with The Q Awards:
- Mon 19th Oct – White Lies
- Tues 20th Oct – Biffy Clyro
- Wed 21st Oct – Kasabian
- Thu 22nd Oct – Lost Prophets
- Fri 23rd Oct – Sonic Youth
- Sat 24th Oct – Paloma Faith
