Free Coffee & Cakes at Liberty Department Store

Coffee and shopping has gone hand in hand (or glove in glove as winter approaches) ever since the arrival across the Atlantic of the first Starbucks in London. While traditionalists and old grannies still stick to shopping and afternoon tea, the packed Starbucks, Cafe Nero, and Costa Coffee outlets around Oxford Street and Soho on weekend afternoons is a reflection of this new way of life.

Nescafe Liberty London Now, Nescafe and the Liberty Department Store have done one better by offering you coffee and cakes for FREE after your shopping, and you don’t have to set foot outside the warm environs of the Liberty Department Store! From next Monday onwards (23rd November 2009) till Friday the 27th, Nescafe is opening a pop-up cafe on the 3rd floor of the Liberty Department Store, just around the corner from Carnaby Street and a few minutes walk from the junction of Oxford Street and Regent Street. Delicious (depending on personal opinion) blends of Nescafe will be served in exquisite bone china cups served with decadent cup cakes. The Liberty Department Store itself is a already a haven from the stressful throngs of people in the area, so being able to sit down and have a relaxing free cup of coffee and a cupcake will be like nirvana.

Temporary pop-up cafes such as this Nescafe one in Liberty seems to be gaining popularity, with Warner Brothers opening a similar-style pop up cafe of the famous Central Perk Cafe from the TV show Friends last month, also in London, and coincidentally just around the corner from Liberty on Carnaby Street.

Of course, if you’re a tea lover or a non-coffee drinker, I’m not sure if there is an alternative (as the pop-up cafe is being sponsored by Nescafe). But I think you will still be able to enjoy the cupcakes, even if can’t enjoy the coffee. If you’re in the Oxford Circus or Regent Street area and looking for a spot of afternoon tea in-between your shopping next week, this is one place worth considering.
