Preview: The JD Set Gig at Dingwalls
Published 18 April 2010
The latest edition of Jack Daniel’s series of concerts, the JD set, is set to take place in London on the 5th of May, and will once again see a host of modern artists re-interpret a classic album in its entirety.
This time it is the turn of the Human League’s seminal album Dare to be re-worked. Taking place at Dingwall’s in Camden, the JD Set gig will feature performances by Shy Child, Infadels, The Shortwave Set, Kids On Bridges, and The Pipettes.
With the current musical landscape very much influenced by all things 80’s and synth based, the gig should be an exciting insight into where current sounds originated and how they have shaped the sound of modern artists.
The gig will feature one-of collaborations between the artists as well as individual sets previewing new tracks so fans of any one band would be foolish to miss out on the chance to see them perform original and classic material with like minded contemporaries.
Over the past three years of JD Set gigs, we have seen stand out performances from the likes of Temper Trap, The Wombats featuring Peter Hook, and Hugh Cornwall and The Hours.
Don’t miss the chance to see a great line-up come together to celebrate a classic album that has been hugely influential on modern music! If you’re not in London, the JD Set will be touring with gigs in Manchester on the 27th May featuring the Buzzcocks, Mike Joyce, and Tim Burgess (from the Charlatans), and a gig in Glasgowon the 17th June with a focus on Madonna’s finest musical moments. You can also watch exclusive behind the scenes footage of the studio sessions on The JD Set Website, Channel 4, and NME TV.
Exclusive video of The Pipettes and The Shortwave Set from last week’s JD Set studio session:
After the JD studio session, The Pipettes said, “We usually do a hell of a lot of dancing and jumping around as The Pipettes so to sing backing vocals for the Shortwave Set, and as gently as we could, was a pleasant change!”
