London 2012 Shop open at St Pancras International
Published 31 August 2010
I was passing through St Pancras Station/Kings Cross on my way to Luton Airport, when I couldn’t help but notice that a London 2012 Olympics shop had opened, just after the Eurostar ticket office. Even though I was rushing to catch the train to Luton Parkway, I couldn’t help but stop and gawp at the store, with its shelves of colourful merchandise and tat.
With just under two years to go till the Olympic games in Stratford, it seems like LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games to you) couldn’t wait to start pushing London Olympic merchandise. Inside, there were loads of London 2012 t-shirts, plush toys of the ugly teletubby mascots Wenlock and Mandeville, as well as loads of the usual souvenirs such as mugs, ashtrays, and bottle openers.
I admit that I almost purchased something from the shop. But not for myself, of course! A dear old friend from Vancouver had sent me a Winter Olympics 2010 t-shirt, and I promised to send something from the London 2010 games back to her; unfortunately I couldn’t find anything I liked and I really did have a train to catch!
So what’s the lowdown on this London 2012 shop at St Pancras? Well, for starters, it is the only official merchandise seller of London 2012 branded stuff in London at the moment, so if you really need to get some Olympics souvenirs (2 years early), this is the only place to go. They have a range of Olympic and Paralympic souvenirs for sale, and the range is quite extensive. Apart from the regular merchandise, they also sell some limited edition collector’s items, such as the plug Wenlock toys, of which only 2012 were created.
Otherwise, you can also order all of the merchandise online, at their London 2012 Online Shop.
