Limited Edition Glamour Donuts at Krispy Kreme

Have you passed by a Krispy Kreme store or their in-store displays at Tescos and have had to do a double-take? Thought someone had read the wrong date and played an April Fool’s prank more than a month early?

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you should definitely pop down to your local Krispy Kreme or Tesco‘s selling them to either drool lovingly over or gawp in surprise at the new limited edition pink & purple glazed Krispy Kreme donuts. Created exclusively to celebrate GLAMOUR Magazine‘s 10th anniversary in the UK as one of the leading woman’s magazines, they’re definitely a sight to behold.

Jo Elvin, GLAMOUR’s editor, said this about the donuts: ‘We are proud to present, with Krispy Kreme, the world’s most stylish doughnut! The GLAMOUR Glaze doughnut tastes as gorgeous as it looks – I know this because the GLAMOUR team and I have run extensive taste tests. They’re impossible to resist – and seeing as it’s our 10th anniversary, why bother trying? Celebrate with us.’

Taking the regular Krispy Kreme donuts with a hole in the middle, the donut crafters at Krispy Kreme have concocted two special glazes, in hot pink and purple. The hot pink glazing had a delicious hint of strawberry, and the purple glazing had a faint taste of blackcurrant. Both shimmered under my kitchen lights. Worryingly, they looked like they had just been poured out from a bottle of lip gloss, as the glazing had shiny specks in them!

One bite though and all thoughts of eating lip gloss was gone – it was heavenly sugar glazing, on a classic Krispy Kreme donut – could one ever wish for a better snack? Barely an hour later, the box of dozen donuts I’d left in my office kitchen was reduced to a few crumbs and telltale traces of pink and purple glazing!

I couldn’t help but comment on this piece. Found the idea of Glamour magazine – filled to the brim with skinny types – celebrating their anniversary with doughnuts to be most ironic! Giggle of the week.

Perhaps the models will sneak a lick. Or better still, just sniff the doughnut!

Must say, they do look scrummy though. And being a somewhat *cough* ‘curvy’ girl, I shall happily try one out with a worrying lack of guilt.

Had a purple one today, they taste awful. Doughnut is still lovely, but the topping is really synthetic and even has a slight metallic taste to it.
