Not heard of Balham? Its a sleepy neighbourhood in South London, the sibling to the more widely known Clapham. For years, Balham was always see as second rate to Clapham in terms of food & drink, but lately, some trendy and top class bars and restaurants have sprung up in Balham.

This coming Sunday is the start of the inaugural Balham Food Festival, which is supported by local businesses and residents in Balham. Really, it is a showcase of the top food and drink destinations in Balham, which is something to shout about.

On Sunday 10th, “The Big Launch” takes place on Hildreth Street, just a short walk from Balham Station. Top restaurants such as Lamberts, Tacuba, and Harrisons will be there serving food, as well as food speciality shops such as the Chadwicks Butchers and the Wine Tasting Shop. There’s also a big hog roast taking place just down Ramsden Road at the Balham Bowls Club too!

Apart from The Big Launch event on the Sunday, there’s a fortnight of events taking place at local businesses, including wine pairing and tasting, a Caribbean cooking course, and the stalls at Venn Street Market in Clapham moving down to Balham for a day on the 17th July.

So do have a look at the schedule of events, and go and explore an up-and-coming foodie destination.
