The Gory Gourmet – A Party for the Walking Dead TV Show

Everything from the weird to the wacky passes through my London Insider editor’s inbox – you would not believe the things that are promoted! Yet, I received what must have been the most bizarre PR invite today, for a Gory Gourmet feast of guts and brain.

And I the unfortunate luck to read the press release while having lunch at my desk! Suffice to say I now look at hummus in a different light…

The purpose of the PR email that I received was to promote an event called The Gory Gourmet, which bills itself as the “World’s first gastronomic brain food menu”. Brain food as not in its food that is good for your brain (ginseng anyone?), but actual brains that have been cooked to be eaten!

This Gory Gourmet stomach-turning feast was created to celebrate next week’s release of The Walking Dead Season 2 on DVD and Blu-ray, which is a hit TV show about a group of survivors trying to out-live and out-run hordes of zombies. Definitely a show worth watching – I’ve watched every episode in the first two seasons and love it!

The menu, created by street food guru Mark Jankel, should not be read if you’re eating or drinking anything at the moment:

The Menu:

Big Brain Burger

Brain burger with smoked mustard mayo, lettuce and cheese in a sesame seed bun

Crispy Brain Dippers

Crispy chunks of brain with barbecue sauce

Brain Salad Wrap

Crispy chunks of brain with wild rocket and tarragon mayo

Feet and Thyroid Nuggets

Nuggets of pig’s feet and cow thyroid with herb mayo

Skewered Hearts

Grilled beef heart skewers with horseradish mayo

On Wednesday 22nd August, The Gory Gourmet will park up at world-renowned Camden Lock Market, just inside the entrance to Camden Lock Place, and will give away free servings of the dishes on offer to the lucky customers who are first in the lunchtime queue from 12.30pm.

On Thursday 23rd, it will move on to a Lower Marsh Market, Waterloo for another lunchtime serving up the dishes to hungry Londoners, again on a first-come-first served basis.

The real question is – are those real brains, feet, and hearts? Or mock brains? Only one way to find out…
