Free Christmas Outdoor Skating “Ice” Rink in Balham
Published 1 December 2012
There’s good news and bad news. The good news, is that despite all the exorbitant outdoor ice skating rinks in London, there’s a free one in Balham this Christmas, sponsored by Network Rail.
This ice rink is located next to the massive Sainsburys supermarket in Balham, which is conveniently located on the Northern Line. Ice skating is completely free for both adults and kids – including free skate hire.
The free ice skating rink in Balham will be open for three days from the Friday 14th December to Sunday 16th December. Skates from children’s size nine to adult size 12 will be available to hire free of charge.
This is all part of a series of free events, community carols, and special Christmas markets held in Balham in December.
Now for the bad news – the “ice” rink is not a real ice rink after all, but a synthetic ice rink. Slightly disappointing, but I’ve skated on synthetic ice rinks before and they’re not that bad – in fact, falling down on a synthetic rink hurts alot less than on a real ice rink, and there’s no danger of fingers getting sliced off if you’re on the ice and someone is pretending to be the speed devil zipping around the rink.
