Southbank Winter Festival
Published 16 December 2012
The winter festivals that take place along the Southbank stretch every year always excites me! There’s something about standing in the fresh frosty air next to the river and surrounded by Christmas lights, market stalls, and great outdoor performances.
This year the Southbank Winter Festival is back again, spread across the entire Southbank including the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Festival Hall.
There’s the traditional Southbank Centre Christmas Market (until 24 December, Queen’s Walk) with its 80 wooden chalets running along the twinkling riverside, including two Richard Woods-designed huts which contain a craft workshop and pocket-money gift shop.
Then a Christmas twist to the Real Food Market offering all manner of traditional and non-traditional festive bites (14 – 16 & 20 – 23 December, Southbank Centre Square).
For something in the warm indoors, there’s Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl, the UK premiere of award-winning international cabaret sensation Meow Meow’s dark twist on the classic winter tale. Performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall from 13th December to the 30th December.
Loads of other events too – see the below infographic for a quick overview, or go to the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival website.
