Amazon Opens Alexa Accelerator in London

Having partnered with Techstars to set up Alexa dedicated accelerators worldwide, London is the site for their second cohort, the first being in the hometown of Amazon, Seattle.

Applications are now open, for anyone with a great idea for a device or software that interacts with Alexa devices such as Amazon Echo. Each team will receive $120,000 of funding, in return for 6% of equity.

In addition, participants will also receiving mentorship and guidance from local Amazon teams as they build their company towards the program’s Demo Day.

We talked to a prospective applicant, the team behind Best Commands, who are looking to build the world’s largest database and resource of commands for smart home AI devices, such as Alexa. Dave Beamish from the Best Commands team says : “we’re excited to hear that Amazon have decided to run their second accelerator cohort in London, because that’s given us the chance to apply. Being able to get mentorship and connect with some brilliant product engineers at Amazon for support and help would be amazing in getting our service to serve the millions of smart home AI owners around the world.”
