Review: Baozi Inn – Spicy Sichuan Street Food in Chinatown

Love noodles? Love spicy? This is the restaurant to go to if you want some hot spicy Sichuan-style noodles. While it is located in touristy Leicester Square and Chinatown, this small establishment does authentic Sichuan-style street food, as well as some very tasty and good value meat-filled steamed buns.

Review: Italian Tapas in Putney

Valentina in Putney shows that Italian food goes beyond pizza and pasta, adding a little va va voom by serving it tapas-style. I went to check out the way this restaurant and deli merges two cultures and see how successful it is, plus find out about their upcoming tasting events.

Champagne Tasting at Leiths Cookery School

Leiths is likely the country’s best known professional cookery school. It’s been the breeding ground of many a big name chef and people will travel from afar to train there. It’s less well known for evening and day courses though, so we took a trip to West London to try out a Champagne Tasting course and see if it lives up to the name…

East London’s Vegetarian Haunts: Anarchists, Poets, and Buses

Vegetarian venues in East London are eccentric, unpredictable, and alarmingly good fun. I have been munching my way around these hotbeds of radicalism, environmentalism, and cupcakes to find the top five East End veggie haunts.

Discover Proper Sherry: London’s first sherry bar opens

Sherry gets a lot of bad press consigning it to granny and the odd trifle. The sickly sweet stuff we most commonly drink here in the UK isn’t sherry as the Spanish know it. As London’s first sherry bar, Bar Pepito is on a mission to change our preconceptions and introduce London to the delights of proper sherry…

Launch Of New Spring Menu At Pizza Express

Last week, I was invited to a special evening hosted by PizzaExpress, where I got the chance to sample their new spring menu which introduces new Leggera pizzas and mini desserts that, to my delight, were light on the calories but still extremely satisfying. Plus there was the chance to sample a limited edition election pizza, as well as try my hand at being a pizzaiolo!

Leon Review: “Feel Good” Fast Food?

When studying, living, or working around central London it is sometimes quite a dilemma to find a restaurant that serves cheap, quick, and healthy food. Leon, an award winning fast food restaurant, has a reputation for doing exactly that, and so when the opportunity presented itself for me to visit the Cannon Street branch of Leon, I couldn’t wait to see what all the fuss was about!

Frae: Frozen Yoghurt, Naturally…

Frozen yoghurt (FroYo if you will) is becoming increasingly common in London. Frae has just re-opened on Camden Passage in time for summer and has thrown the gauntlet to other brands. Fat-free, additive-free, low-calorie, organic and eco-friendly, it’s a pot to be proud of. How it does compare in taste, and just what’s lurking in other competing brands?

Review: Bubbles & Brunch at the Cookbook Cafe

This weekend brunch buffet is a step above the rest in London, offering fantastic food and unlimited bellinis at a pretty reasonable price. The weird thing? Its a hotel restaurant, which are generally not well known for exciting food or atmosphere, but the Cookbook Cafe delivers well on the first point and was fully packed when were we there for a Saturday brunch.

Review: Swiss Cheese Fondue Night

Swiss Cheese Fondue in London? Will it have cheddar? I asked myself that question when I first heard about a Swiss Cheese Fondue Night at the Swissotel The Howard in London, but thankfully they stick true to the authentic recipe, using 3 different Swiss cheeses for their melting pot of delicious fondue. Held in a mock Swiss-style chalet in their garden, you can’t get more Swiss than this anywhere else in London.
